Iguanas are your unwelcomed guest; they will eat the flower bush and steal the fruits in your trees. They were first introduced in Miami during the 1960s and they gradually spread to the southern area of the Florida. They can lay a maximum of 70 eggs that contribute to their incredible reproduction rate. They also do not have a natural predator that makes it relatively difficult to eliminate their presence.

Effective Method to Drive away the Iguanas
With their increasing population, it will only take time before the iguana finally invades your yard. During the summer season, they will often be found close to a water source. You can find them in the pond, stream and on your pool.
Baiting and Trapping
Since they are diurnal creature, you will need to set-up the trap during the day. You should also close the trap at night to avoid capturing non-targeted animals. You need to monitor the trap to ensure that the trapped animal will not suffer from dehydration. The iguanas can also acquire wounds while they are trying to escape. To calm the nerves of the iguana, try to cover the trap with foliage that will make them feel less vulnerable. When choosing a bait for your trap, choose a ripe fruit like mangoes, bananas, and strawberries. Papayas and grapes can also be an ideal bait.
Using Repellent
Repellent can be effective but only for a short time. Try to spread some granules on the opening of the property. Look for a repellent that is made from all-natural ingredients. In case the granules will not be effective in eliminating the infestation, add some liquid repellent. Liquid repellent may contain the powerful scent that will drive away the creature. It will only take a couple of days before the iguana figures out that there is no existing threat to your yard.
Change the Landscape
You can create a landscape that is less-inviting for the iguanas. For instance, you can reduce the debris, the pile of rocks, and the thick grasses. These elements will offer protection to the iguanas since they can use this to conceal their presence. Start eliminating the vegetation that the iguanas love. This may include roses, orchids, and hibiscus. Iguanas also prefer the taste of beets, lettuce, collard, broccoli, and kale. It has been proven that iguanas will stay away from citrus fruits, crotons, and pentas.
You can also keep them out of the yard by installing barriers. To prevent them from climbing the trees. Wrap the trunk of the tree with a metal sheet. The smooth surface of the metal will prevent them from gaining traction. If you want to protect your plant, you may purchase a screen enclosure of plant cage. Electric fence will also be an excellent deterrent against them. The shock will be enough to scare the animal. However, this solution will require periodic maintenance and they will also be more expensive compared to the other solution we mentioned in this article.
